Through direct partnerships with community providers like you, Sesame Street in Communities delivers laughter and learning to children and families who need it most.
Sesame Street in Communities in association with GetSet Transylvania joined the festivities at the Kindergarten Readiness Rally on March 21, 2019 at Transylvania Parks and Recreation!
Sesame Street in Communities presented a workshop to early childhood educators called “School Readiness: Becoming Brain Builders.” Hosted by Smart Start and led by award winning children’s media writer and editor for Sesame Workshop, Kama Einhorn, this session provided intensive training with an action plan for immediate classroom application. Transylvania County’s diverse early childhood education community was represented by teachers and directors from Transylvania County Schools, licensed private and county-run child care centers, part day child care centers, the NC Pre-K program, Brevard College, and WCCA, our local Head Start provider.
Sesame Street in Communities facilitated a workshop for families too, the title of which was “Little People Big Feelings: Helping Your Young Child Learn About and Regulate Emotions.” Hosted by The Family Place, and led by Kama Einhorn, this session empowered families with a greater understanding of children’s emotions in an inclusive and supportive atmosphere. Childcare for the little ones was provided by The Family Place, and Parks and Rec engaged the older children in fun activities.
Transylvania County, NC is the first rural community chosen for Sesame Street in Communities (SSIC), a major initiative to support parents, caregivers, and community providers in their efforts to give all children, especially the most vulnerable, a strong, healthy start. In addition to working with Transylvania County, Sesame Street in Communities has partnered with Los Angeles, Guilford County, NC and Kansas City, MO.
