Infancy Development
Nurturing North Carolina’s littlest minds
Healthy social and emotional development in infants and young children is a critical factor to their long term success, in school and beyond. Smart Start of Transylvania County supports programs and policies that promote infancy development and support Maternal Child Health.
Today’s babies make up tomorrow’s educators, leaders, and policy-makers, which is why it is crucial to invest in our collective future by advocating for changes that positively impact babies.
Our partnership with Think Babies
The Think Babies project is an opportunity to increase education and awareness among the public and policymakers of the proposed policies and strategies in the Prenatal-to-3 Policy Roadmap.
Think Babies highlights key needs that influence the development of infants and toddlers: paid family and medical leave, high-quality and affordable child care, and economic stability.
Learn about each of these needs and the policies that influence them, check out ways you can get involved to invoke change, and view state-specific data on the wellbeing of babies by visiting ThinkBabies.org
Supporting Emergent Literacy
Prepare children ages 0-3 to become readers.
About 80 percent of all brain development occurs in the first 3 years of life. Teaching infants and toddlers emergent literacy skills gives them a strong start that will help them to become successful lifelong learners so that they can excel in school and beyond!
Use SSTC’s Book Babies toolkit to help children from birth to age 3 to begin building vital literacy skills! Access our downloadable resource guide below.
