ASSISTANT Job Description provided by First Baptist W.E.E.:

1. Assistants should arrive before 8:45 a.m. and be ready to welcome the children to the classroom. Assistants may leave at noon if the teacher has no further needs that day. There may be occasions when it is necessary for the assistants to stay a few minutes to help with the pick-up.

2. Be directly responsible to the Director in execution of duties.

3. Assist assigned teacher in any way possible, which may include, but is not necessarily limited to preparing necessary items for classroom projects. Assist on the playground.

4. The assistants are responsible for opening and wiping down the playground when necessary on a rotating basis as assigned by the Director.

5. Supervise and insure the safety and well-being of the children at all times, being alert for the needs and/or problems of the children as individuals and as a group. Never leave a group unattended.

6. Assume responsibilities of the teacher in her absence.

7. Be familiar with and follow all preschool policies.

8. Report to the Director any special needs or problems.

9. Attend in-service workshops as requested by the Director or W.E.E. Ministry Team.

10. Assistants are paid for 3 1/2 hours per day for the number of days scheduled per week for ten months.

11. Assistants should feel free to ask teachers and the director any questions regarding their duties.

12. It is the teachers’ responsibility to provide assistants lists of projects needed. Assistants may need to remind teachers for a list. Projects should be planned and prepared at least one week in advance.

13. In the absence of a staff member, it may be necessary for assistants to rotate to other classrooms.

14. If assigned to the Early Services Program, keep classroom neat and orderly. Broken toys should be discarded. Clean and/or wash toys including blankets, dress-up clothes before open house. Clean and wash when necessary at other times and especially if there has been a lot of sickness in the class.
