The human brain is one of few organs that is not fully developed at birth. During the first 2000 days of a child’s life - from birth to kindergarten - the brain is forming, creating a foundation for all future learning.
The First 2000 Days is an initiative of the North Carolina Early Childhood Foundation to raise awareness about how the early childhood years create a lasting impact on later learning, health and success.
Investment in early child development yields:
- Fewer special education placements.
- Higher graduation rates.
- Reduced crime.
- Higher earnings.
- Less reliance on social services.
